Weil Gotshal & Manges and Herbert Smith Freehills have picked up lead roles advising on the merger between satellite companies Eutelsat Communications and OneWeb, in a $3.4 billion deal.

Eutelsat, a French-listed company that televises around 7,000 channels to over one billion viewers around the world,  is set to apply for a listing on the London Stock Exchange following the combination. OneWeb, backed by a consortium of shareholders made up of the Bharti group, the U.K. government, SoftBank and Hanwha Systems, provides internet via “a constellation of low orbit satellites”.
