Another partner has left Shearman & Sterling amid the U.S. led firm's merger talks with Hogan Lovells.

London financial restructuring partner Helena Potts has left the firm to join U.S. rival Paul Hastings, a person with knowledge of the move said on Monday.

Potts' move follows other Shearman partner exits in recent weeks, including Abu Dhabi partner Dan Feldman leaving to join King & Spalding, and a wider Middle East team quitting to launch an Abu Dhabi office for Gibson Dunn & Crutcher.

In a statement, Shearman & Sterling commented: "We can confirm Helena Potts is leaving the firm. We thank Helena for the contribution she has made to the firm and wish her all the best for the future."

Potts leaves Shearman after nearly two years with the firm, having previously spent 10 years as a partner at Latham & Watkins, also in London, between 2011 and 2021. She is set to join Paul Hastings shortly.

The news was first reported by Financial News.

It comes amid tie-up talks between Shearman and Hogan Lovells. If a merger was to go ahead, transatlantic firm Hogan Lovells' 2,532 lawyers would combine with Shearman's 727 lawyers, according to AmLaw rankings.
