Receiving unwanted comments about their appearance, being overlooked in meetings and left out of opportunities, and facing microaggressions the more senior they get are among the key obstacles that women face in the Hong Kong legal sector, according to a joint report by Mayer Brown and a Hong Kong-based women’s legal group.

The law firm, together with non-profit Women in Law Hong Kong (WILHK), have released a report entitled ‘everyday behavior project’ which reveals the types of gender discrimination female professionals in the legal sector face, after gathering responses from 360 men and women working in the legal profession, 77% of whom were women. Professional services firm Accenture assisted with the data collection.
