A mutual legal assistance treaty (MLAT) reached between Singapore and France came into on April 1, enabling both countries to exchange requests for legal assistance in criminal matters, according to Singapore's Ministry of Law (MinLaw).

The MLAT, which was signed in July 2020, will become Singapore's first such treaty since 2005, and the first time such a bilateral agreement has been ratified with a civil law country, according to MinLaw's statement.
