U.K. lawyers are debating whether law firms should be the ones to top up the country's ailing legal aid budget, following a proposal recently put forward in Westminster.
The proposal, set out last week at an event organised by Legal Action Group—an independent charity promoting equal access to justice for all socially or economically disadvantaged members of society—laid out the case for a National Legal Service, funded in part by the commercial law industry.
