Asia Pacific law firms continued to grow despite the myriad of market challenges in 2022. According to the 2023 Asia 50—our ranking of firms with the largest presence in the Asia Pacific region by head count—the number of lawyers working at the 50 largest firms in the region totaled 103,174, up 11.8% from the total number of lawyers in 2021. This compares to the 9% growth in head count in fiscal year 2021.
Growth was driven primarily by the top 15 largest law firms, all of which are based in China and have more than 1,700 lawyers. All of these firms grew in head count and a majority of them, including DeHeng Law Offices, Jingsh Law Firm, W&H Law Firm, Grandall Law Firm and King & Wood Mallesons, mostly added more than 300 lawyers over 2022.
