Denmark’s Supreme Court has ordered a leading Danish law firm to pay the country’s tax agency 400 million Danish krone (€59 million) in damages over tax advice given by one of its former lawyers.

The lawsuit centred on legal advice a Bech-Bruun lawyer gave the North Channel Bank in 2014 and the firm’s liability for tax losses suffered by the Danish Customs and Tax Administration as a result of that advice. The name of the lawyer was not disclosed.
