A High Court judge in the U.K. has struck down an attempt to exclude thousands of claimants from pursuing compensation for damages caused by a devastating dam collapse in 2015 at a mine co-owned in Brazil by BHP Group.
Slaughter and May, which represents BHP, had argued that thousands of claimants should not be part of the London case, in which claimants seek £36 billion in damages for a deadly 2015 mining dam spill in Brazil.
