European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has nominated Teresa Ribera Rodríguez as the EU's next competition chief, one of the most powerful and high-profile roles in the executive body of the European Union.
Ribera will also steer the EU's climate policy, serving as "executive vice-president of a clean, just and competitive transition" if she is confirmed.
