U.S. chip maker Intel has won an unprecedented, years-long court battle to overturn a €1 billion EU antitrust fine.

It was the fourth largest competition fine given by the EU antitrust regulator to date and it saw Intel and the European Commission facing off four times in court over a 15-year period, twice before the lower General Court, and twice before the top Court of Justice of the European Union. Over that period, Intel switched legal teams, while three successive EU competition chiefs wrangled with the case.
