French firm Bredin Prat is defending the U.S. short-term lodging rental platform against a hotel trade group's litigation seeking €1.5 million in damages for "unfair competition" and major changes in its operations.

Bredin Prat lawyers for Airbnb convinced a Paris business court this week to reject a hotel trade group's complaint that sought to force the short-term rental platform to verify the legality of every rental offer posted on its site.
But a lawyer representing the Union des Metiers et des Industries de L'hotellerie, or UMIH, said the Paris Commercial Court's Oct. 21 ruling is "just a first step" and the union will appeal.
