The Canadian legal market is a bit of an oddity compared with other similar-sized jurisdictions and nowhere is that reflected more than in how it is treated by big firms with offices around the world.

Putting aside multinational vereins such as DLA Piper, Dentons, Baker McKenzie and Norton Rose Fulbright, which all have full-on Canadian offices practicing Canadian law, none of the U.S. or international giants has much of a presence in Canada, despite its sizable and sophisticated legal industry. Its revenue totaled $18.3 billion last year, according to IBIS World.
