Germans affected by Facebook data breaches are entitled to compensation but not as much as they’d like, the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) ruled on Monday.

Many law firms and legal tech providers expected individuals to receive up to €1,000 each as compensation but the BGH deemed about €100 to be more appropriate for mere loss of control, with sums rising if claimants can demonstrate “psychological impairments” or incurred expenses resulting from the data loss.
