The U.N General Assembly’s final vote to approve the United Nations cybercrime treaty in December could set global guidelines for cybercrime laws, but whether the treaty will actually be ratified and implemented by the U.S. and other nations is an open question.

After three years in the making, a draft of the United Nations Convention Against Cybercrime was agreed upon in August, with a focus on advancements in technology, how its used to commit various acts of cybercrime, from fraud to child sexual abuse, and how to combat it.
