Canadian trade law experts predict turbulent times ahead after U.S. President-elect Donald Trump threatened to impose 25% tariffs on all Canadian and Mexican imports as soon as he takes office.

While few predict the incoming U.S. president will impose blanket tariffs on all imports, he does have a track record of threatening and imposing tariffs in order to effect change, said Paul Lalonde, lead of Dentons Canada’s regulatory practice, “I think it's more likely that we'll see tariffs of some kind on targeted goods.”
