Dechert has brought aboard a Hong Kong disputes partner, just as its current Asia litigation head is planning to depart for Proskauer Rose.
Kareena Teh is joining Dechert from the Hong Kong office of Baker & McKenzie, on Jan. 27. Meanwhile partner David Chu confirmed that Jan. 23 will be his last day at Dechert. The next day he will begin as head of newly launched litigation and investigations practice in the Hong Kong office of New York’s Proskauer Rose.
Chu’s departure follows that of former Hong Kong office managing partner Basil Hwang, who announced earlier this week he had left Dechert to join Chinese firm Zhong Lun Law Firm.
Teh represents clients in a wide range of corporate and commercial disputes, including insolvency and insurance litigation. Teh also handles cross-border fraud, corruption and money laundering investigations.
Last April, she was the only woman among the 15 senior Hong Kong solicitors who were granted the right to argue in court, a right previously restricted to barristers.
Teh joined the Hong Kong office of Baker & McKenzie in 2002 and became a partner in 2008. Before that she was a barrister at Durham Chambers in Christchurch, New Zealand. Earlier in her career, she worked at the Christchurch firm Young Hunter Lawyers.
