Allen & Overy Bangkok partner Stephen Jaggs has represented Laos-Thailand joint venture Nam Ngiep 1 Power Co. Ltd. on a $916 million hydropower project in Laos. The 290-megawatt project is a joint venture between Lao Holding State Enterprise and Thailand’s EGAT International Co. Ltd. Japan’s Kansai Electric Power Co. Inc. is also a sponsor of the project. Construction starts later this year, with a launch expected in 2019. DFDL served as the sponsors’ Laos counsel. Clifford Chance Bangkok partner Joseph Tisuthiwongse, Perth partner Philip Sealey and London partner Ashvin Seetulsingh advised Japan Bank for International Cooperation, Asian Development Bank and a group of seven other Japanese and Thai lenders on the financing of the deal.
