The tie-up last week between Dacheng Law Offices and Dentons created the world’s biggest law firm and has once again cast a spotlight on China’s fast-growing legal market.

“It’s a positive move. It shows how ambitious Chinese firms are,” says Hubert Tse, a partner at Shanghai-based firm Boss & Young, who, like other Chinese lawyers, hailed the merger as another milestone for the globalization of Chinese firms. “We have seen many cross-Atlantic mergers between U.S. and U.K. firms over the years. This is the start of a new trend of China-driven global mergers.”
