A small intellectual property team has left Bird & Bird to set up a China IP practice for Swedish consultancy firm Awapatent A.B.

Former Bird & Bird Beijing partner Ai-Leen Lim and three associates have set up new offices in the Chinese capital and Hong Kong for Awapatent and will advise clients on portfolio and brand management issues in China. The move into Asia for Awapatent, which has 160 patent and trademark attorneys, is the first outside of Europe for the company. Lim will be based in Beijing as the chief executive and principal counsel at AWA Asia, and will spend time in the Hong Kong office as well.
