Japanese firm TMI Associates has hired away a Tokyo-based corporate partner from Big Four firm Nishimura & Asahi.
Masakazu Iwakura typically handles large-scale mergers and acquisitions involving Japanese companies. In 2015, he advised Japan Post Holdings Co. on a $4.9 billion acquisition of Australian logistics company Toll Holdings Ltd. In the same year, he also represented Japanese oil refiner Idemitsu Kosan Co. Ltd. on a $1.4 billion deal to buy a one-third stake in rival Showa Shell Sekiyu from the Royal Dutch Shell.
