WongPartnership has opened an office in Myanmar.
The Singaporean firm has relocated one associate and a Myanmar paralegal to staff the new Yangon office. Partners will fly in and out on an as-needed basis.
WongPartnership has already been advising both Myanmar and foreign clients on their investments in the country, which is opening its economy and reforming its political system after 50 years of military rule. In January, the firm represented Yangon-based Myanmar Golden Star Beverage Co. Ltd. on a joint venture with South Korea’s Lotte Chilsung Beverage Co. Ltd. to make and distribute PepsiCo Inc. beverages in the country.
WongPartnershp is one of many firms to open a Yangon office over the past 18 months, including Baker & McKenzie, Duane Morris, Herzfeld & Rubin and Allen & Gledhill. Japanese and Korean firms such as Nishimura & Asahi, Mori Homada & Matsumoto and Jipyong Jisung have also established a presence in Myanmar.
WongPartnership has about 270 lawyers in offices in Singpore, Beijing, Shanghai, Yangon, Abu Dhabi and Doha.
