What Are the Four Stages of Lean Law?
Time for a quick recap before we dive into the operative stages of the program—Planning, Execution, Monitoring and Improvement.
Thank you for sharing!
Let’s recap the problem. Up to this point you have had to endure my life story, for which I can only apologize. We covered my career as an English lawyer working for automakers, who taught me about lean methods, and how I shamelessly borrowed them in supplying legal services back to them. Then we got onto how ideas from the world of Strategic Management gave a structure to these methods, which became the Lean Law Program.
We also looked at the ‘new reality’ in which clients demand better processes or operational efficiency. We then connected Lean Law to this new reality, and we asked what lawyers, law firms and clients want. These turned out to be pretty much the same things. Finally, we looked at the benefits and value. Within this we looked at what kind of legal projects Lean Law can benefit, which is any kind. We also discussed the constituencies for Lean Law, and how it’s relevant to individual lawyers, law firms, their insurers and of course clients.. We concluded that you can embed the concepts of Lean in everything you do for clients and for your firm. We also examined the idea of reliability and what it means to clients, for which the foundations are effectiveness (correct outcome), efficiency (on budget and on time) and transparency.
