The idea of attorneys not just getting downtime, but being entitled to it, has been in the news. The push from associates for boundaries has come to fruition in Australia, with legislation which enshrines the right to disconnect at 5 pm. That is, they are entitled to refuse to work and decline client communications outside of office hours, unless doing so would be unreasonable.

Whether attorneys actually want the right to disconnect is another matter entirely, as discussed by Christopher Nieshe on Law.com International. Whether they want it or not, Australian lawyers now have this right to disconnect. But what about the right to connect?
