What Does ‘More-for-Less’ Mean?
On its face, more-for-less appeared to law firms like a demand for more work product at less cost, i.e., lower hourly rates. law firms did not respond by providing more work product at lower cost. The closest they came was fixed price deals, some risk sharing and a selection of freebies and value adds. Meanwhile they hiked rates.

We all remember how the client push-back started. Not long into the new millennium, clients started using terms like “more-for-less.” This was later rephrased as “client-centricity” or “client-first.” On the law firm side, this era was dubbed the new reality. Given how the demand has only become stronger, it’s worth taking a moment to ask what “more-for-less” means.
