Reed Smith has appointed five new partners in London as part of a 25-strong global round.

Two City counsel and three associates have made the cut, spanning the firm's corporate financial, entertainment and media, and shipping teams.

They are: senior corporate associate Oliver Harker; finance associate Simon Hugo; entertainment and media associate Sachin Premnath; finance counsel Elizabeth McGovern; and transactional shipping counsel Ioli Tassopoulou.

Elsewhere, the firm has promoted one lawyer in Munich – disputes lawyer Daja Apetz-Dreier – and one lawyer in each of its Singapore, Shanghai and Hong Kong offices. These are: Hong Kong litigation lawyer Eddy So, Shanghai business and finance lawyer Amy Yin, and Singapore energy lawyer Jessica Kenworthy. A further 16 lawyers were made up to the partnership across the US.

Overall, the firm made up 12 women, representing nearly half the total cohort.

The majority of the promotions were made in finance (five), followed by corporate (four) and litigation (three).

Earlier this month, Morrison & Foerster promoted one London lawyer – litigator Gemma Anderson – in a 15-strong global promotions round. It also made up technology lawyer Christiane Stuetzle in Berlin.

In other promotions news this month, US firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld elected 10 new partners, including one in London. Elsewhere, fellow US firm Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr made up London-based international arbitration lawyer Charlie Caher to its City partnership.
