McDermott Will & Emery, Eversheds Sutherland, Vinson & Elkins and Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft have announced their partner promotions. Collectively, six of the new partners are based in London.

McDermott has made up 19 lawyers across its partnership, including one in London: private client lawyer Simon Gibb.

In Europe, the firm added two associates in Germany to its partnership, transactions lawyer Philipp Grenzebach in Duesseldorf and US and international tax lawyer Nina Siewert in Frankfurt.

Overall, 58% of the group are women, an increase on 2016 when 47% of the firm's 34-strong promotions round were female. That year, the firm also promoted one lawyer in the City.

Meanwhile, Eversheds Sutherland has promoted 17 lawyers across its US offices. The bulk of the promotions are in Washington DC. The firm has also promoted lawyers in Austin, Atlanta and New York. Of the 17 new partners, 29% are women.

Other US firms to announce partner promotions recently include Vinson & Elkins. Earlier this week (19 December), the firm promoted three lawyers out of a total of 11 in London, one of its largest ever rounds in the City. The rest of the promotions were in the US. In 2016, the firm added just one London lawyer to its partnership.

The three new partners in London are M&A and capital markets lawyers Federico Fruhbeck and Dan Graham and complex commercial litigator Louise Woods.

Last week (14 December), Cadwalader made up two lawyers in London out of a total of nine promotions globally. Of the nine new partners only two are women and both are London-based. They are capital markets lawyer Claire Suzanne Puddicombe and financial and restructuring lawyer Jacqueline Ingram.

All of the promotions are effective from January 2018.
