Ince & Co has made 32 redundancies in London, with 25 business services roles and seven fee earners going as a result of a consultation that began in June.

Three further roles are still part of the consultation, including one managing associate who Ince is looking to relocate to one of its international offices. The redundancies include one salaried partner.

Staff were originally told that between 32 and 36 roles were likely to be made redundant, with the majority of the job losses likely to be in business services.

Following the redundancies, the firm is looking to sublet 7,690 sq ft of its total floor space in Aldgate Tower. The space represents 22% of the 35,000 sq ft office space.

Commenting on the consultation, head of Ince's London office and global director of HR Andrew Jameson said: "We recognise that our recent restructure has been unsettling for all our people and want to thank them for their professionalism throughout the process, which was carried out in a fair and transparent manner to ensure that we have the right people, in the right place, doing the right jobs."

In June, Legal Week reported that Ince was paying half of its autumn intake of trainees £7,000 to defer their start dates by a year. Five of the firm's autumn intake will now begin their training contracts in 2019, in a move understood to be linked to the redundancy consultation.

The process of deciding which trainees would put their training contracts back by 12 months was voluntary, with issues such as personal circumstances taken into consideration.

The news comes after international senior partner Jan Heuvels (pictured) relocated from London to the firm's Hong Kong office last November, as part of a push to drive growth in the Asia-Pacific region.
