OC makes double City partner hire including Bird & Bird UK tax head

Osborne Clarke (OC) has continued its recruitment push with the hire of two partners to its City office, including Bird & Bird UK tax chief Mathew Oliver.
Oliver (pictured) joins the firm today (23 October), while the firm has also recruited Addleshaw Goddard banking and finance partner Laurie Keel, who will join OC in January 2019.
The hires see OC continue a concerted international recruitment push that has seen the firm bolster its teams across its London, Sweden, the Netherlands, Brussels and Singapore bases.
Oliver has been a partner at Bird & Bird since 2006, having joined from legacy Lovells. He provides tax advice to clients engaged in M&A, venture capital and corporate structuring matters both in the UK and internationally, and includes a number of tech clients in his portfolio. For a time, he was Bird & Bird's only dedicated London partner in the practice area.
Keel joined Addleshaws in 2013 as an associate, having previously practiced at Slaughter and May. He made partner in 2016 and specialises in debt capital markets and derivatives.
OC head of tax Tracey Wright said: "Mathew brings excellent technical experience and strong digital business credentials and contacts. He will give us greater partner-level bench strength, help us to maximise opportunities in our existing client base and target new strategically important clients across digital business and our other core sectors."
A spokesperson from Bird & Bird said: "We thank Mat for his contribution and wish him all the best for the future."
Last month, OC added eight lawyers to its global network, including DWF head of employment Andrew Chamberlain, Squire Patton Boggs employment partner Anna Elliott, and new head of tax for its Netherlands base, Job van der Pol.

David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
