Ashurst has hired White & Case project finance partner Matthew Wood to lead its London-based African project finance team.
Wood, who specialises in the Middle East and Africa, moved to the United Arab Emirates in 2010 from White & Case's London office and was made a partner in Abu Dhabi in 2015.
He will join Ashurst's Abu Dhabi office for six months before moving to its City base.
Wood specialises in the financing and development of energy and infrastructure assets and has experience advising sponsors, lenders including Islamic banks and export credit/multilateral agencies, and government institutions across a diverse range of jurisdictions in the Middle East, north Africa, sub-Saharan Africa and southeast Asia.
Ashurst Middle East managing partner Joss Dare said: "Matt's appointment further demonstrates our commitment to continue to strengthen our projects capabilities. He has superb experience across a wide range of transactions in the Middle East and in Africa, which ties in perfectly with our global capability and will help us to capitalise on the major opportunities that lie ahead."
Other hires for Ashurst this year include Baker McKenzie securitisation head Jonathan Walsh and Squire Patton Boggs real estate disputes partner Alison Hardy in London, and DLA Piper Frankfurt office managing partner Michael Holzhaeuser.
A White & Case spokesperson said: "We can confirm that Matt Wood has left White & Case. We wish him every success in his future endeavours."
