Gordon Dadds has entered into an association with a local firm in Hong Kong, as it prepares to merge with Ince & Co.

The Law Society of Hong Kong has approved an association between Gordon Dadds' Hong Kong office and Justin Chow & Co, a three-lawyer practice launched by name partner Justine Chow in January.

Chow focuses on general corporate and commercial work, and previously did stints at local firms Ellen Au & Co and de Bedin & Lee.

The approval follows a merger agreement announced last week between Gordon Dadds and Ince. The deal will see all of Ince's global offices join the combined firm – which will be called Ince Gordon Dadds – by the end of this year.

Gordon Dadds chief executive Adrian Biles confirmed that Justin Chow & Co will integrate with Ince's Hong Kong office as part of the combination.

In addition, Gordon Dadds' two-lawyer Hong Kong office will also merge into the combined firm. "It's complementary. No conflicts," Ince Hong Kong managing partner David Beaves said of the two firms combining Hong Kong offices.

Gordon Dadds, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange's AIM, first disclosed a Hong Kong association in a financials announcement in June. Earlier that year, the firm opened its first office outside the UK in Hong Kong with real estate partner Alan Ma.

Both Ma and his associate, Ghulam Marium Butt, are English lawyers, and a local association will enable the firm to provide Hong Kong law advice.

In September, Gordon Dadds announced it had been in merger talks with Ince, which has operated in Hong Kong since 1979 and has 19 lawyers, including seven partners, mostly focusing on shipping and aviation work.
