Dechert has announced one of its largest-ever promotions rounds, with 16 lawyers made up around the world, including three in London.

Two of the London promotions are in the US firm's City white-collar crime practice, with Matthew Banham and Timothy Bowden (pictured right) made up alongside tax lawyer Daniel Hawthorne (pictured below right).

Last year, the firm made just one London promotion – financial services lawyer Mikhaelle Schiappacasse – in an eight-strong round.

Outside of the US, two other Europe-based lawyers have been promoted – Paris corporate lawyer Anne-Charlotte Riviere and Brussels arbitrator Erica Stein – while corporate specialist Yang Wang has made the grade in Hong Kong.

The other 10 new partners are spread across the US firm's domestic offices in Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Chicago and Washington DC.

The promotions will take effect from 1 January 2019.

Andrew Levander, chair of the firm's policy committee, said: "We are extremely proud to welcome these talented lawyers into Dechert's partnership. This is one of the largest classes of new partners that the firm has ever created, and underlines our commitment to strategic growth in our key markets."

London management committee member Jason Butwick added that the promotions reflected "the firm's commitment to London and its importance to the firm".

Recent hires for the firm in London have included Roger Burlingame, a former senior US federal prosecutor who joined from Kobre & Kim; former Sidley Austin global litigation co-head Dorothy Cory-Wright, who joined as head of commercial litigation in London; and corporate partner Robert Darwin, who moved over from Hogan Lovells.
