Reed Smith has made up seven partners in London, in the firm's biggest-ever global promotions round, with a total of 43 lawyers making the cut.
The 2019 City intake represents the largest pool of London lawyers made up by the US firm since 2016, when seven partners were also made up. In both 2017 and 2018, five partners were promoted in London.
The seven London promotions include finance lawyers Kamal Arulvel and Sarah Caldwell, commercial disputes lawyers Eleanor Chapman and George Hoare, real estate lawyers Sarah Cunningham and Navjoyt Sahota and transportation lawyer Alexander Sandiforth.
Elsewhere, the firm has made up 10 lawyers in the US and five in continental Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
Meanwhile, the firm is also making up 32 of its associates to counsel, with 10 lawyers being promoted in London.
Of the new partners, 16 are female, comprising 37% of the group, while 17 of the new counsel are female – more than half of the cohort. All promotions went live on 1 January 2019.
Casey Ryan, Reed Smith's global head of legal personnel and a member of the firm's senior management team, said: "Our new partners and counsel are notably diverse, exceptionally capable, and represent a broad range of practices and geographies across our global platform."
Elsewhere, fellow US firms Morrison & Foerster and Willkie Farr & Gallagher have shown restraint in their City promotions, making up a partner apiece in their respective London offices.
