DAC Beachcroft is taking over alliance firm McKinty and Wright to establish a base in Northern Ireland.

Up to 17 fee-earners will join DACB, the firm said in a statement, including six partners, with the deal expected to finalise in early July this year.

The local Belfast firm employs 34 fee-earners and support staff in total.

Though DACB has said it cannot guarantee all employees will join the wider firm at this stage, a spokesperson confirmed that this was the intention.

DACB and McKinty have had a formal 'best friends' relationship in place since 2016, according to DACB's statement.

The Belfast-based firm is best known for its defence-side personal injury work. Five of the firm's six partners are focused on this area, with the remaining partner overseeing the firm's property law practice.

DACB said it expects to use its new Northern Ireland base to invest in and develop new technologies, "capitalising on Belfast's top-notch talent pool for legal services and business support".

Highlighting the importance of having a Northern Ireland hub for its insurance client-base, DACB managing partner David Pollitt said in a statement that he expects the move to help the firm cement its position in the Belfast market, and "grow its presence and capabilities quickly in this new office so that we can better serve our clients".

DACB opened a new office in Paris at the start of this year, with an eight-lawyer team from local firm HMN & Partners, and moved into brand-new digs at the Walbrook Building in London last month, merging its two previous London offices.
