LOD Accelerates International Expansion With Australian Acquisition
The deal gives LOD around 100 new lawyers in the country.

Alternative legal service provider Lawyers On Demand (LOD) has acquired Australian firm Lexvoco, in the latest expansive move for the outfit.
The deal grants LOD a further 100 lawyers and 30 staff members across Australia, bringing its total lawyer numbers in the country to 300. It will add to its existing offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, where both firms have presences, and gain new bases in Adelaide, Geelong, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
Lexvoco's legal operations and legal technology function will be spun out to form a new offering called LOD Innovate, which will be headed up by lexvoco founder and CEO Anthony Wright.
LOD CEO Tom Hartley told Legal Week lexvoco has particular strengths in catering to in-house legal team's needs, and that was one of the two main reasons behind LOD's interest in the company.
He said: "Lexvoco is great at two things in particular – secondments and in-house services. Clients want to optimise their in-house teams more and more and want to know what we can offer in that area, whether it's overspill capacity or different tech solutions, for example."
According to Hartley, business from Australia and the U.K. makes up about 75% of LOD's workload.
He also said that entering the U.S. remains a priority for the firm, and that it is "actively looking" for an opportunity.
Since private equity firm Bowmark Capital became LOD's majority shareholder last year, the business has set its sights on further international expansion.
In an interview with Legal Week at the time, LOD founder Simon Harper said it had plans to bolster its managed solutions offering as well as expanding geographically.
