Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld has continued its spate of London hires with the addition of White & Case M&A partner Gavin Weir.

Weir joins Akin Gump after more than eight years at White & Case, having joined the U.S. firm from Simmons & Simmons in 2011.

He currently co-heads White & Case's financial institutions M&A group for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Key deals he has advised on while at the U.S. firm include advising on the 2013 sale of luxury yacht company Sunseeker International and a London hotel development site to a Chinese conglomerate for £1 billion ($1.26 billion), as well as advising on a $5 billion Japanese advertising merger.

In a statement, partner-in-charge of Akin Gump's London office Sebastian Rice said: "The breadth of Gavin's experience will help the firm to continue building out its public and private M&A practice, and he will also work closely with the firm's market-leading financial restructuring teams. He will be a huge asset to the practice and our clients."

Weir's hire is the latest in a slew of additions to Akin Gump's City office in recent weeks.

The firm has hired four lawyers from O'Melveny & Myers this year, including funds partner John Daghlian who joined the firm earlier this month. He rejoined former colleagues Daniel Quinn and Aleksander Bakic.

O'Melveny funds counsel Mary Lavelle also made the move across to Akin Gump alongside Daghlian and joins the firm as a partner.

A spokesperson for White & Case said in a statement: "We can confirm that Gavin Weir has left White & Case. We wish him every success in his future endeavours."

Other recent hires for Akin Gump include corporate and capital markets partner Allen Shyu from Stephenson Harwood in Beijing, and finance and capital markets partner Rizwan Kanji from King & Spalding in Dubai.
