Eversheds Sutherland has hired three partners in its Amsterdam office as it continues to bolster its European network.

Corporate partner Jeroen Hoekstra and commercial partner Benjamin van Kessel join Eversheds from local firm Nineyards Law, while corporate lawyer Elmer Veenman joins from De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, where he was a senior associate.

Hoekstra was one of the founding partners of Nineyards Law in 2015, prior to which he was a partner at Baker McKenzie. Technology and IP specialist van Kessel was also a partner at Baker McKenzie, having made the move over to Nineyards Law at the end of 2015.

Veenman, meanwhile, has spent the last 12 years at De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, and split his time between Amsterdam, London and New York.

Eversheds Europe managing partner Helen Thomas said in a statement: "Strengthening our client relationships across our European network is an ongoing and significant part of our global strategy. In order to do that, we need to ensure that we continue to build strength in depth within the same jurisdictions in which our key clients operate. These senior appointments further reflect our commitment and determination to ensure that we are successful in this."

Thomas was appointed to the new position earlier this year, and has been focused on increasing headcount across the firm's European offices.

Last January, Eversheds sealed a merger with a Dutch firm it had been affliated with for a decade, which was known as Faasen & Partners until 2008 when it came under the Eversheds brand and was added to the firm's non-financially integrated European network.
