The Natural History Museum is seeking to appoint a head of legal in London for the first time.

The newly created role is being advertised through the museum's LinkedIn account, and would suit a "talented and commercially astute legal professional, looking to move into a hands-on role in-house".

The advert further states that the role's key responsibility is to oversee all of the museum's contractual relationships and negotiations, and provide assurance that the museum is compliant with regulatory and legislative frameworks.

The new head of legal would report to the executive director of finance and corporate services, and deliver legal services for directors, trustees and senior managers.

Prospective candidates have until 9am on August 19, 2019 to apply. Interviews will be held in the week starting September 10, 2019.

The successful candidate will be a practising solicitor with experience in commercial practice and IP expertise, and strong negotiating skills and commercial awareness.

The museum is one of London's most iconic landmarks and welcomes more than five million visitors a year. It houses 80 million specimens across its London and Tring museums, and it is currently preparing for the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Waterhouse Building, in 2031.
