Burges Salmon has been awarded a £2.5 million government contract to provide legal services to the Department for Transport (DfT).

The firm "will provide advice and support" to the DfT's Transport and Works Act Unit, focusing particularly on non-Highways England development consent orders and Transport and Works Act applications under "work package two".

The award document states that the work will include "liaising and working with the Unit and the Department for Transport Legal Advisers".

The contract will run from August 16, 2019 to August 15, 2022.

The award is the latest government mandate win for Burges Salmon, which in May won a spot on Transport for London's legal panel, while earlier this year the firm secured a mandate advising on the new deal for West Coast Mainline.

The mandate follows a slew of recent government contract awards for law firms, including Hogan Lovells which won a £3 million contract to advise HM Treasury during and after the Brexit process.

Also this year, Pinsent Masons and DWF were among those to secure a place on the line-up for a £60 million legal panel that will advise local authorities in Northern England, while HS1 Railway opened its legal panel tender process, which will be worth between £10 million and £15 million.
