Dentons has added a compliance partner in Duesseldorf, once again expanding its operations in Germany.

Ann-Kristin Cahnbley joins the firm from Clifford Chance, where she worked for eight years, most recently as a senior associate. She will advise clients in the healthcare and industrial sectors on criminal law and regulatory risk. Her work will focus on the design of compliance systems to avoid violating anti-corruption law.

Cahnbley said she was attracted to Dentons in part because of its rapid growth. The firm opened its office in Duesseldorf in February, taking its total number of offices in Germany to four after Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich.

She also was attracted by Dentons' global reach, which will enable her international clients to be served by a single source, she said.

The market for compliance services is expanding because of a new law on corporate criminal law in Germany that has increased the potential penalties for white-collar crime, Cahnbley said. This law has expanded the demand for compliance services and designing compliance systems.

Indeed, Dentons has been expanding its compliance group in Germany. It hired Lars Kutzner as a partner for its Duesseldorf office in April. The compliance group now has more than 35 lawyers in Dentons' four German offices.

In moving to Dentons, Cahnbley reunites with former Clifford Chance partner Florian Wiesner, who joined Dentons in May.

Cahnbley said her experience during the last four years at Clifford Chance, dealing with pharmaceuticals and life sciences, was a good fit for Dentons. This experience included medical devices, data protection and advertising, she said.
