Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer employment head Peter Jeffcote is to replace Ian Terry as managing partner in a shake up that will see chief executive Alan Peck spearhead the firm's US strategy.

Jeffcote, who co-heads the firm's global employment, pensions and benefits group, will take up the role at the start of October, when Terry will return to fee earning. However, as part of the shake-up Peck will take on a more hands on role overseeing US operations, as well as its European offices outside Germany and Austria.

The move echoes Linklaters' decision to appoint heavy hitter Terence Kyle as US managing partner.
