Travers Smith is advising Pinewood Studios on planning matters as it creates a working community in Buckinghamshire.

The City firm has been advising Pinewood on real estate, planning, environment and real estate management issues connected with the studio's plans to build a living and working community for the creative industry.

The project will involve building a variety of streetscapes imitating areas such as New York and Venice to be used for filming and the development of a screen crafts academy. As part of the community aspects of the project, the scheme will include 1,400 homes and a school.

London real estate chief Julian Bass is leading the team for Travers, which has a longstanding relationship with the production group. Meanwhile, the firm's environment and planning chief Steven McNab is advising on planning and the carbon assessment of the project, with hopes to significantly cut carbon emissions.

Travers has instructed Landmark Chambers' Chris Katkowski QC and Charles Banner as lead counsel.

Bass said: "It is a novel concept for the film industry. It will provide an intriguing environment with on-location filming in streetscapes and settings for film producers – replicating distinctive architectural styles and typologies from cities like Venice and New York, in a living and working community."
