Norton Rose has made up 36 new partners across its international network, including eight in London and the firm's first promotions in Canada, Latin America and Africa.

Almost half of this year's promotions are in these new markets, with the round including six director promotions in South Africa – the local equivalent to partner. Ten partners have been made up in Canada and one in Venezuela.

The firm entered Canada and South Africa in June last year via a three-way merger with Ogilvy Renault and Deneys Reitz, while a subsequent Canada tie-up with Macleod Dixon gifted the firm its first LatAm presence in Venezuela and Colombia.

Broken down by practice area, the promotions primarily span the firm's three global practice groups of corporate (11), litigation and dispute resolution (10) and banking and finance (nine) with a further three in antitrust, competition and regulatory, two in intellectual property and one cross-specialist.

The London promotions include four in corporate, and two each in banking and finance and litigation and dispute resolution.

Almost half of the promotions made this year (44%) are female. Last year the firm made up a total of 15 new partners, including seven women.

Norton Rose Group chief executive Peter Martyr commented: "The international spread and number of promotions is a reflection of our significant international expansion. We are particularly pleased to see Norton Rose promotions in Africa, Canada and Latin America for the first time this year".
