DLA Piper has announced its 2012 partnership promotions, with 58 new partners made up around the world including 12 in the UK.

Four of the UK promotions are in London, where intellectual property (IP) and technology duo Claire Bennett and John Wilks, corporate partner Chris Baird and finance and projects specialist Dimitri Papaefstratious have made the grade.

Outside London, Sheffield, Birmingham and Manchester have gained two new partners apiece across the employment, pensions and benefits, real estate, corporate and finance teams.

Meanwhile, the firm's Liverpool base has received one new partner with the promotion of IP and technology partner Jeff Vernon, with Glasgow lawyer Callum Sinclair made up in the same group.

The US, where the promotions took effect from 1 January rather than 1 May elsewhere, received the largest number of new partners, with 22 promotions.

Continental Europe gained 17, including three in Italy and two apiece in Belgium, Germany, Spain and Austria. The firm has also promoted seven partners in the Asia-Pacific region across Hong Kong, Australia and Shanghai.

Broken down by practice, corporate received the highest number of new partners with 14, followed by IP and technology on 11. The litigation and regulatory practice gained 10 new partners, with eight for finance and projects, six in employment, five in real estate, three in tax and one in restructuring.

The round is slightly up on 2011 when the firm made up 53 new partners around the world. Last year five were made up in London and five were promoted elsewhere in the UK, while the US received 17.
