Davenport Lyons has gone into administration, with Gordon Dadds taking over the business.

Around 30 partners and 80 staff from Davenport Lyons will transfer to Gordon Dadds, while the Mayfair firm will also take on its client database and the majority of its assets.

Terms of the sale were agreed with joint administrator Baker Tilly.

Davenport Lyons had this year discussed mergers with firms including fellow West End firm HowardKennedyFsi, which called off talks at the end of February.

The troubled firm posted revenue of £21.9m for 2012-13, down 11% on the previous year's figure of £24.5m, while PEP tumbled 12.5% to £197,000.

Gordon Dadds managing partner Adrian Biles said the move would propel his firm into the UK top 100 law firms by revenue.

Biles said: "We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with so many of the excellent people and clients of Davenport Lyons. The additional intellectual capital and depth of expertise will add to our capabilities.

"It will benefit current and future clients and enable us to expand our activity across new disciplines, helping us to achieve our goal of positioning Gordon Dadds LLP as a centre of excellence for all aspects of corporate, commercial, real estate, dispute resolution, employment, intellectual property, media and technology and private client and family law."

Biles will continue to lead the firm, which operates out of bases in Mayfair and Covent Garden, alongside senior partner Roger Peters.
