Slaughter and May makes up one woman in 10-strong promotions round
The magic circle has promoted 10 new members to its partnership, in this year's spring promotions round, up from four last year

Slaughter and May has promoted just one woman in a round of 10 promotions to its partnership.
The promotion of only one woman, corporate lawyer Victoria MacDuff, in this year's round is a fall from last year when 50% of the new intake, two out of four lawyers, was female.
However, the total number of promotions is up significantly on last year, when it promoted just four lawyers to partner.
The promotions round is the biggest the firm has undertaken since 2000, when it also promoted ten lawyers to partner.
All promotions are effective from 1 May 2016 bringing the firm's partner headcount to 115. Only 24 members of the partnership are female, accounting for 21% of the total.
Chris Saul, senior partner at Slaughter and May, said: "We are thrilled to be promoting 10 lawyers to the partnership across a range of practice areas. They reflect the outstanding talent which we have here at the firm."
Incoming senior partner Steve Cooke, who will take over on 1 May, added: "Our new partners have already established a strong track record of providing excellent advice to our clients. They will make an important contribution to the continuing growth of our practice."
None of the firm's international offices in Belgium, Beijing and Hong Kong saw any of their numbers made up.
Earlier this year Slaughters promoted Hong Kong corporate associate Roger Cheng to replace retiring partner Neil Hyman and maintain the firm's Asia headcount. Cheng's promotion is also effective from 1 May.
In recent years women have made up a fairly high proportion of the lawyers promoted to partner at Slaughters. Women made up half the promotions last year and in 2014 women made up 43% of the lawyers Slaughters promoted in a seven-strong round. In 2013 women again made up 50% of the lawyers promoted to partner, though the firm only promoted two people.
Last year the total number of lawyers promoted to partner across the UK magic circle climbed to the highest point since 2012, with the proportion of women made up rising from 26% in 2012 to 31% in 2015 across the group.
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, which announced its 2016 promotions last week, promoted a total of 16 to its partnership across London, continental Europe, America and the Middle East.
Five of the 16-strong group are female meaning that women represent around 30% of the total promotions, on par with the proportions last year.
