Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has added to its US offering with the hire of senior federal prosecutor Daniel Braun in Washington DC.

Braun, who specialises in white collar investigations, led the LIBOR and FX investigations into the conduct of bankers at leading financial institutions.

Adam Siegel, regional managing partner for the US and co-head of the firm's global investigations practice, said: "His leadership experience, investigations expertise and international outlook make him a perfect fit for Freshfields.

"I have known Dan for many years and, on a personal level too, he will be a great fit for the team we are building in the US."

Over the last two years the magic circle firm has added nine lateral hires to its US practice.

In June last year the firm bolstered its litigation practice with Simpson Thacher & Bartlett partner Linda Martin.

In New York last year the firm hired Kirkland & Ellis employment partner Howard Klein.

The firm is understood to have broken with its pure lockstep model to push ahead with the New York hiring drive, following similar moves in Asia in 2012.

It is understood to have done the same in London for newly recruited high-yield partner Ward McKimm, who joined in June from Kirkland & Ellis, though management will not be drawn on the details.

Last month magic circle rival Clifford Chance hired deputy chief of the criminal division in the United States Attorney's Office for the eastern district of New York, Daniel Silver, as a partner in its New York office.
