It seems like it happened overnight: enterprise networks, once closed and relatively easy to secure, must now provide access to a veritable horde of mobile devices—employee laptops, smartphones, tablets, and more. An estimated 75 percent of the workforce is now mobile, and securing data on all those endpoints has become a front-burner issue for many organizations.
Solutions in this market segment abound, but a Sunnyvale, California-based company, Druva, recently added a privacy framework to its flagship inSync data protection and governance product that should be of interest to corporate legal departments. The new framework is designed to prevent unauthorized data access and misuse of employee data by authorized users, and to safeguard data integrity for e-discovery, compliance, and forensics. It addresses the “often-neglected concerns about corporate and employee data misuse,” the company says.
The Druva inSync solution employs a cloud-based backup system and a set of data loss prevention, IT-managed file sharing, and data governance controls to secure business data residing on employees' devices. The solution's governance capabilities includes a legal hold workflow that combines identification tools with federated search and audit trails, collection and “preserve-in-place” capabilities, and direct access to Druva from the top e-discovery platforms.
