While many of the challenges in international e-discovery can be addressed through the proper selection of technology, other more human problems remain. Chief among them are the cultural, linguistic and legal differences that exist on the other side of many of the world's borders.
From stricter European Union privacy laws, to the need to forge a trustworthy relationship prior to a business engagement in Japan, international companies must know what they're getting into before they start collection in another region.
Legaltech News recently discussed those challenges with Andy Ruckman, a principal and the market offerings leader of the discovery practice for Deloitte Transactions and Business Analytics. Ruckman addressed both the technological and cultural considerations one would want to employ dealing with international e-discovery and offers advice to legal teams who may find themselves in this often precarious situation.
