The growing information economy — including developing technologies like cloud computing, big data, the internet of things, and the increasing mobile sector — is coming to the forefront of concern for businesses and consumers alike. Naturally, the legal world is concerned about how to handle certain elements of the information economy, and the Atlanta branch of the firm LeClairRyan launched a blog last week to address the legal issues surrounding the information economy, specifically. Within the blog, the firm will discuss the legal aspects of data breaches, privacy, cyber security among other items. The blog titled Information Counts, and experts from the firm's privacy and data security team will contribute.

LeClairRyan shareholder John P. Hutchins noted that the firm decided to focus on the information economy for a few reasons, one being Atlanta's growing tech sector and the city's developing need for cybersecurity expertise. In an interview with Legaltech News, Hutchins said, “the firm recently made an investment in new talent in this area in our Atlanta and San Francisco offices. While everyone recognizes that San Francisco is synonymous with tech, Atlanta's tech sector is growing.”

He explained that the state of Georgia is experiencing a burgeoning role in technology and security industry, and that firm has found a need to disseminate knowledge and educate readers about the developing relationship between the legal world and that of the information economy. “Georgia is being positioned as leader in cybersecurity, which will be a particular focus of the blog. Our clients call us every day with questions about how various aspects of the fast-paced challenges in information management impact their business, and we wanted to provide a resource that helps them get ahead of the curve,” Hutchins explained.
