Casetext Inc.'s namesake software as a service is an online repository of federal and state case law, statutes and regulations and a platform for legal professions to contribute legal analysis and commentary. The service recently released a new feature, called LegalPad, which is an online editor for authors to contribute content (posts) in a What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get (WYSIWYG) editor with a built-in mechanism to link primary and secondary legal sources within Casetext.

Popularly known as a crowdsourced legal research platform, Casetext combines primary legal research materials with user-contributed content. Users can search the law by case title, citation, keyword, and phrase and apply commonly known proximity limiters to search syntax, such as “discovery /n sanctions” where “n” equals the number of words that can come between the search terms.

Search results can be limited by sorting (by relevance, date, citation) and filtering (by jurisdiction and topic). Topic filters are tags aligned with Casetext communities, such as business law and civil rights.
